Logan Paul's Editor Hating on my Filmmaking for 20 Minutes

And how I both hate yet somehow love his feedback.

A video thumbnail pairing footage from Karbala, Iraq with an editor reacting and the words “How dare you?”.

I’m ngl, I’ve been procrastinating on this one.

It’s not that I’ve been scared to share this.

It happened in front of 200 people already, so another 30 or so people seeing it is no big deal.

No, it’s something bigger.

The video was recorded back and January, and I shared it with a few friends.

I was fully planning on posting it right then and there, but decided not to last minute.

And this kept happening. Every few weeks, I’d log in to my 2nd YouTube channel, and hover my mouse over that “change visibility” button. One click—that’s all it needed.

I think I was embarrassed, tbh.

This is someone I had looked up to for years; he was the man who inspired me to start a podcast.

This is Hayden Hillier-Smith we’re talking about. He’s edited for MrBeast, Logan Paul, Mark Rober, and more. He’s won the 2020 Streamy’s award for best editing.

And… he hated, what I thought at the time, was my best YouTube video.

The worst part was, I had edited the video he reacted in 3 days.

And I wasn’t even there when he reacted to clarify 😬.

But now I’ve realized he was actually cooking. Through what seemed like somewhat harsh feedback, he gave me a very, very valuable lesson on storytelling.

After I posted a video last week of 6 mistakes I made when starting YouTube, I decided, screw it. It’s time I post his full roast.

Because what he taught me wouldn’t be right to gate-keep it. And I’m extremely grateful for the chance to have had my video reacted to by Hayden.

Check out the full roast here →

Next week, I break down what I learned from this roast, and how some behind-the-scenes from Beast Philanthropy completely changed the way I edit my videos.

If that sounds interesting, feel free to hit subscribe, and I’ll see you soon. ✌️
